In the fall of 2005, a group gathered for the first time to discuss the challenges facing our communities, how to cultivate physical and spiritual health in an over-stressed and over-scheduled culture, and how to educate and nurture the next generation who are growing up in the middle of it all. This weekend gathering each fall became a tradition that slowly grew into the Eldenbridge community.
Even as members have moved for work or school over the years and the group has become an extended community spread across the eastern U.S., continuing the conversation both online and through an ongoing series of weekend gatherings, the center of the community has remained in the Huntsville, Alabama area where it started.
Over time, the group began to focus on several areas—Permaculture, deep nature connection, nourishing and healing foods, and regenerative community design—that they found provided real solutions to their concerns. Out of this research grew the Eldenbridge Institute, formed by several of the core members of the Eldenbridge community to provide training and design services in support of regenerative community.
Given the high-tech roots of Huntsville, which is home to one of the highest concentrations of engineers and scientists anywhere in the U.S., it was natural that many of the members of the Eldenbridge community would bring with them deep backgrounds in the sciences, technology, and engineering. The goal of our core teaching staff is to blend this experience with modern technology and engineering practices with an understanding of the human need to feel connected and supported in a local community where they and their families can be happy and healthy.
The Eldenbridge Institute is now beginning to offer a series of classes and workshops for those who would like to join our conversation about how to address the challenges of modern life in a positive and creative way. We invite you to check out our class offerings and to join our mailing list to keep informed about what is happening with the Eldenbridge community.
